This image above reflects that this sort of fence or column structure provides people a view that the dark areas(shadows) and the light areas are well defined. On the other hand, this structure in architecture gives people more privacy but still an open area when it is used as a public space. This structure is applied on all of my three components. For the labs, this column structure can let in the nature light and gives several separate shadows so that a comfortable working area is provided. The bridging space is a public area and an open space at the same time. The fence structure in this case, provides more privacy to people, however, save the open space. Besides,the image above also shows that darkness can distinguish different parts of a whole design clearly. Good use of darkness and shadows plays an important role in design. I have tried to use some darkness in my piece to show the importance of dark areas and shadows.
