This lab is for Kuepper. She is working on solar energy and electricity, therefore, a larger platform area(roof) is required for her to capture the sunlight for experiments. It is make up by 4 prisms.

This lab is for Hawking. Hawking's job is studying the universe, so he needs a big room for experiment area and the room on top of it can be used for placing the equipments such as telescopes. It is formed by 4 prisms.

THE 36 CUSTOM TEXTURES

ELECTROLIQUID AGGREGATION

Concept:
“Why still speak of the real and the virtual, the material and immaterial? Here these categories are not in opposition, or in some metaphysical disagreement, but more in an electroliquid aggregation, enforcing each other, as in a two part adhesive.”

Lars Spuybroek, [1998] Motor Geometry, Architectural Design, Vol 68 No 5/6, p5

QUOTE 1:Nicole Kuepper

"Working on a renewable energy technology that could simultaneously address climate change and poverty for some of the 2 billion people worldwide who currently lack access to a reliable source of electricity.”

The Australian, Emerging leaders - Science, May 04, 2009

QUOTE 2:Stephen Hawking
“I think computer viruses should count as life. I think it says something about human nature that the only form of life we have created so far is purely destructive. We've created life in our own image."

ELECTROLIQUID AGGREGATION:
Computer viruses will become to a renewable source of electricity as it can reproduce quickly and will never be used up.

IMAGE OF BLACK BOX

This image above reflects that this sort of fence or column structure provides people a view that the dark areas(shadows) and the light areas are well defined. On the other hand, this structure in architecture gives people more privacy but still an open area when it is used as a public space. This structure is applied on all of my three components. For the labs, this column structure can let in the nature light and gives several separate shadows so that a comfortable working area is provided. The bridging space is a public area and an open space at the same time. The fence structure in this case, provides more privacy to people, however, save the open space. Besides, the image above also shows that darkness can distinguish different parts of a whole design clearly. Good use of darkness and shadows plays an important role in design. I have tried to use some darkness in my piece to show the importance of dark areas and shadows.

Quotes

Nicole Kuepper

“It's often easier for engineers and scientists to work on the next bio drug or MP3 player, but there are some beautifully simple problems that many people in developing countries face that can have simple, low-cost solutions. After tinkering away in the lab we stumbled upon a simple solar cell manufacturing process involving an inkjet printer, something like nail polish, and a pizza oven that has been deemed the iJET cell concept that I am working on today. Working on a renewable energy technology that could simultaneously address climate change and poverty for some of the 2 billion people worldwide who currently lack access to a reliable source of electricity.”

The Australian, Emerging leaders - Science, May 04, 2009

Charles Darwin

I have called this principle, by which each slight variation, if useful, is preserved, by the term of Natural Selection.

Stephen Hawking

The whole history of science has been the gradual realization that events do not happen in an arbitrary manner, but that they reflect a certain underlying order, which may or may not be divinely inspired.
